John Santos, a data scientist with Janet Brown Opinion Research, said the parties are too new for an impact similar to what is normally seen at the provincial or federal level.
“We can have intellectual debates about what New Democrat, and Conservative, and Liberal mean, but at least people have an idea about what they mean,” Santos said. “The names of the municipal parties are effectively meaningless.”
Lucas said that he believes that made voters revert back to voting on a candidate-to-candidate basis, deciding who they want their representative to be based on their individual values rather than their party affiliation.
