City election campaign fights for public's attention amid busy political agenda on provincial, national and world scenes

John Santos, data scientist at Janet Brown Opinion Research, believes Farkas is the front-runner.

“There has been quite a bit of dissatisfaction with incumbent mayor Jyoti Gondek, and that encouraged very strong (and) credible candidates to come out to challenge her,” Santos said. “The four main contenders are all very strong. Some of them have been campaigning for a very long time, so it’s a crowded race, which is what’s making for it to be tight.”

In its latest poll for CBC, Farkas leads with 27 points, followed by Sharp and Gondek with 23 points each, with Davison at 16 and Thiessen at eight.

“I would still call Farkas the front-runner … he’s leading in not just our poll, but in other polls that we’ve seen,” Santos said. “Our poll also asked about other candidates that people were considering, and Farkas has a lot of crossover appeal with the supporters of other candidates.
